Biology Olympiad

Each year Skyline participates in the USA Biology Olympiad.  We have had a semifinalist for the past two years.  The exam takes place in February.  The open and semifinal exams are based on the official text book:

Biology (7th edition) Authors: Neil A. Campbell, Jane B. Reece
ISBN: 080537146X / Publisher: Benjamin Cummings
Date published: 2004-12-13
As 6th edition is also acceptable. The 5th edition is no longer used.

The USABO National Finals includes two exams – theoretical (written) and practical (laboratory). Both the theoretical and practical exams may differ from your typical IB Biology exams in depth and breadth and in content and context.

Each of the seven topics is covered in each of the four exams:
1. Animal anatomy and physiology: 25%
2. Cell Biology: 20%
3. Genetics and Evolution: 20%
4. Plant anatomy and physiology: 15%
5. Ecology: 10%
6. Ethology: 5%
7. Biosystematics: 5%

Here is the review material from past exams:

Also, check out the USABO Alumni page for other review and practice materials.
