I have two passions: a
passion for teaching
and a passion for
science. I hope that my science experience and
enthusiasm creates student excitement and curiosity
about the abundance of natural phenomena and the
wonderful relevance of science in daily life.

My Passion for
Teaching
I am very proud of my
many accomplishments as a teacher. Evaluations and
feedback about my teaching from students, parents,
colleagues, and school principals all enthusiastically
commend my proficiency as an educator. I am most proud
of the following achievements:

Voted by Skyline students to receive the 2003
and 2005 "Asset Builder Award" in recognition of
instilling 40 key Developmental Aspects in
students and in 2004 and 2005 as an "Unsung
Hero" of Skyline High School. Elected "teacher
of the year" in 2007 by the
Skyline
PTSA. |

Awarded multiple grants from the
Issaquah Schools Foundation for cutting edge
biotechnology lab materials and selected to
serve as a speaker at the annual luncheon.

My Passion for Science
I have had a lifelong interest in science in general
and biology in particular. I have extensive experience
in inquiry-based science, having completed biological
research and fieldwork projects including these
achievements:

Observed and reported on the introduction of a
wild-caught anteater to the local zoo |
 |
Conducted field research in Indonesia examining
the effects of El Niņo on the diet of
long-tailed macaque monkeys |
 |
Performed veterinary assistant duties and as an
intern educated young people at the Woodland
Park Zoo nocturnal house. |

Worked as a Yosemite National Park ranger,
working in wildlife management and guest
interpretive services |
 |
Studied the effects of environmental enrichment
on the behavior of laboratory primates, with
recommendations subsequently implemented
|
 |
Won a fellowship through the National Geographic
Society and Earthwatch Institute to assist with
research in Brazil. |
