Supplemental Reading
In the 2022-2023 school year, the supplemental reading assignment is NOT required. The assignment may optionally be completed if you wish to go Above and Beyond.
Click here for the list of books you can select for supplemental reading!
Please note, the link above takes you to an Amazon list of all the book. You don't need to purchase a book. We have copies of most of these books in the classroom library, school library and/or King County library. I used the Amazon list feature because it was much easier then curating a list with links on this site. If you do elect to purchase a book via the link above, please note that a small percentage is donated back to me, which I then use to purchase more books for the classroom. Also, if you purchase a book, please consider donating it to the classroom library when you are done reading it!
The goal of the supplemental reading assignment is for students to read a biology based popular press book. In IB Biology 1, one supplemental reading book must be read per semester as a required assignment in the classroom category of the grade book. The assignment is worth 100 class work points (which usually turns out to be about 1-2% of the overall grade, but this can vary). Students may read one additional supplemental reading book per semester as "above and beyond" points. However, students may only submit one supplemental reading per quarter. So, if a student wanted to read two books (one required and one above and beyond), he/she would turn in one supplemental reading assignment in first quarter and another in second quarter. The first submission would count for the required assignment and the second submission would count as Above and Beyond points.
In IB Biology 2, the supplemental reading is not required. However, if you'd like, you may read up to one book per quarter for "above and beyond" points.
