Canopies, Climate and Critters of the Ecuadorian Rainforest
In June of 2012 we went to a cloud forest in the Ecuadorian Andes. We stayed in a very remote lodge called Santa Lucia. The lodge served as our home base as we assisted with three ongoing research projects; a wild cat camera trapping project, a bird diversity study and a forest carbon sequestration project. The work was physically demanding and very rewarding. You can read an extended essay report (pdf) one of the students completed based on the work we completed in Ecuador.
"I found a posting for a research assistant position in a lab. I applied and went for an interview immediately. I talked to the professor about her research, my knowledge of plants and phenology, and the field work we did in Ecuador and she hired me on the spot! I am now the only freshman to work at the lab."
